A: Inscription in one line: ιαo → Ἰάω written in Latin script.
B: Inscription in three lines: ablan|athan|alba → Ἀβλαναθαναλβα-palindrome written in Latin script. The inscription on the reverse runs 'head to toe' to the inscription on the obverse.
Intact, with minor shell-like chippings at the edge. Nothing on the surface of the obverse indicates that it might have been set in a ring for a longer period. The obverse is more finely polished than the reverse.
Measurements for the ring: 26 x 15,1 x 11,1 mm. Although the ring is also ancient, and the obverse of the gem fits the mount of the ring perfectly, in all probability the gem was not mounted in it originally. The gem was taken out of the ring (to which it was fixed with plastic glue) on 9 June 2012.
It was acquired by the Museum as a gift in 1954.
